Wrapping up the last lesson for our series on “Wholehearted Gratitude,” Josephine taught us to be thankful to God because we can pray to Him, He hears, and He answers (1 John 5:14-15).
First, we can be thankful that we can pray and have confidence when we draw near to God. This confidence is ultimately found in Christ as He is our High Priest (Hebrews 4:16). Unlike the saints of the Old Testament who had to sacrifice animals to draw near, we have assurance and boldness to come before God in prayer through Christ. Prayer is a great privilege, but oftentimes we may see it as a burden or another task we need to do. Instead, let us be truly thankful to God for the access we have to Him through prayer.
Second, we can be thankful that God hears us. Prayer is direct communication with the living God who hears all prayers, whether big or small. We pray not to impress others, but to commune with God and give Him glory (Matthew 6:7-13). We can trust that God wants to hear our prayers because He cares about us and is involved in our lives.
Third, we can be thankful that He answers. We know that God answers according to His will, but oftentimes we think God does not answer because we did not get what we wanted. However, we can trust that God gives what is good to those who ask (Matthew 7:7-10). Good is determined by His perfect wisdom and not by what we expect. We know what our ultimate good is when we see the way God chooses to answer our prayers.
Afterwards, Jess taught a practical training on “Healthy Eating on a Budget” where we learned about the nutrition provided by certain foods and how to shop with our health in mind. We learned biblical principles about how we can glorify God in whatever we do, including what we eat and drink!
We had a great time at Women of Gold and were encouraged to grow in thankfulness to God for He is truly a generous and good God! We hope you will join us for our next Women of Gold event, and we look forward to seeing you soon!
