Beauty Appreciation

The women had a great time putting into application what they learned in Designed for Beauty at Beauty Appreciation through a time of hearing from God’s Word, fellowship, and fun activities! We kicked off the event by hearing a devotional from our sister Sabrina titled “Enlightened by the Word” from Psalm 19:8. She shared about how crucial it is to know God’s Word, which illuminates what holiness looks like and therefore how we are to apply it practically in our lives. Sabrina also gave practical tips on how to grow in our love for the Word, such as choosing to humbly submit to the Word rather than avoid conviction, praying and asking God to help us delight in His Word rather than seeing it as a checklist, and building habits of meditating on God’s Word throughout the day like the psalmist in Psalm 1:1–3.
Afterwards, we had a fun painting tutorial taught by Julia where we got to appreciate God’s design for light and shadow and recognize it as beautiful because God created it. We also reflected on how the secular world can appreciate these things while failing to acknowledge the Creator behind them. As Christians, however, we can have an even greater appreciation for them because we know the Creator Himself. During the activity, we learned painting techniques such as underpainting and atmospheric perspective.
Lastly, we engaged in an activity based on the lesson “Every Thought in the Light.” We wrote down thoughts we struggle with and then wrote God’s truth to counter them on a flip-top covering the original thought. It served as a practical reminder to continue putting off wrong thinking and live in light of God’s holiness and in truth. Praise God for all the truths we have been able to learn through our Designed for Beauty series this year and let us keep continuing to grow in our love for holiness!
