Devoted to Family

Event Recap

The women had a great time at Devoted to Family where we learned about God’s great design for women! Renee taught us about how we can be devoted to God and steadfast in our dedication to Him by being devoted to family (Titus 2:3-5). We can do this by being devoted to our husbands, homes, children, and the family of God.

Wives can be devoted to their husbands by being their best friends, praying, encouraging, and supporting them in their ministry. Renee taught us that submission, love, and respect are due to our husbands and we are to follow the example of Christ’s submission (Ephesians 5:22). It uplifts our husbands and their ministries when we are godly and submissive.

Women are also to be devoted to the treasure of the home by seeing it as a precious resource for God’s glory. Our homes should not be showrooms but should demonstrate the beauty of God and bring joy to others that come into it. We can use our homes in devotion to God by not only being diligent in chores but being thoughtful of how we decorate our homes and mindful to set the atmosphere by being joyful and comforting to our families.

We can also be devoted to our children by raising them up in the instruction of the Lord. Children are a gift from the Lord, but marriage should not revolve around them. Mothers are to pour truth into their children by pointing them to Christ, showing them the beauty of God through creation, and teaching them that souls are eternal treasures. As mothers, we are to love our children unconditionally as God loves us, not using love as an excuse to ignore sin, but disciplining them in love.

Lastly, Renee shared how being devoted to family doesn’t conflict with being devoted to the family of God, but rather, the two are intertwined. As we serve the church and remain faithful in it even in the busyness of raising a family, the church prays for our families and is a godly influence on the lives of our family members. In our devotion to family, we should never neglect the family we have in Christ.

Renee’s lesson on “Devoted to Family” was encouraging and taught us how being women devoted to our families is pleasing to God because we are devoted to God’s design. She ended the lesson with a touching example of a close friend, how her devotion to her family left a godly legacy behind, and how that honored the Lord. May we all strive to be women who choose to treasure what God treasures through loving God’s design for women!

Event Testimonial

Here's what our sister Meg learned:
"Renee’s lesson on devoted to family was really convicting! She talked about how devotion to marriage and children first comes from a devotion to God, and this will sustain you for the long haul because other people’s praise will not last. When talking about being devoted to marriage, Renee shared how wives are to consistently love and respect their husbands. They don’t need to earn the respect. This includes in the times when the wife does not agree with the husband when he makes decisions that can have a large impact. In those cases, wives need to trust in the Lord and how He has established the structure of the family and respect the husband regardless. Although the husband may not be sovereign, God is! I am not married, but I can prepare for marriage by growing in my trust in God and respecting the men in my life (my boyfriend, father, and older brother)."
