Devoted to Unity

Event Recap

In the last event of our “Unwavering Devotion” series, Hannah taught a lesson titled, “Devoted to Unity.” She showed the unity of the Holy Trinity in Scripture (Genesis 1:26-27) and taught that Christians, made in the likeness of the triune God, were designed for unity as well. We must be devoted to our unity in the church.

From Ephesians 4:1-6, Hannah taught us the three essentials of unity, the first being sound doctrine. Scripture teaches us to be united by being of one mind (1 Peter 3:8). We are not to foster a shallow unity, merely held together by worldly interests and tolerance of one another. Rather, by being like-minded upon truth from Scripture, we are united in one mission, to glorify the Lord and share His Word with others.

It is by having a common belief in doctrine that we are devoted to the same purpose. Hannah talked about the importance of constant devotion to the church—choosing to be humble and submit ourselves to one another. Rather than being petty towards others or speaking ill of church authority when we don’t get our way, we can be devoted to unity unwaveringly by choosing to dwell on God’s truth and humbling ourselves in every situation.

Choosing to be devoted and submissive is tied with the third essential, which is denial of self. Christ is our greatest example of selfless sacrifice, giving Himself up on the cross to unite us to God (Matthew 27:46). When we separate ourselves from others in pride and bitterness, we sever the body of Christ. Instead, we should serve others sacrificially (Philippians 2:4) by encouraging them with Scripture and bringing in people who are left on the fringes.

How encouraging it is to know that we are united in the body of Christ, and we can imitate God by being united with one another in truth and selflessness! Let us choose unity over self-gain and grow in unwavering unity together!

Event Testimonial

Here's a testimonial from our sister Jenn:
"It was super encouraging to hear Hannah teach on the topic of the unity of the church! One part that really stuck out to me was when she talked about having a uniting influence on others by being security for them. I want to be someone who pulls people in and shows them kindness and hospitality in the Lord even if they are different from me or new to the church. One way to do that could be intentionally thinking of who I can talk to at church to comfort and encourage, rather than talking to people I'm comfortable with or waiting for others to reach out to me first. Thankful for that convicting message to be united as Christ's body!"
