Distorted Love

Event Recap

Continuing in this year’s Cornerstone series on “A Woman’s Search for Love,” Renee taught on the topic of “Distorted Love,” and how the world has distorted true, biblical love by promoting same-sex attraction. Rather than listening to the lies of the world, Renee encouraged us to be grounded in knowing what real love is and to put genuine love into practice by putting holiness into others’ lives.

Because God is love, He is not only fully characterized by love, but is also the ultimate standard of love (1 John 4:8). As a result, any “love” inconsistent with who God is, is not real love! Although the world appears to love on the surface, they hate God’s perfect design for man and woman in marriage (Genesis 2:24), resulting in moral degeneracy (Romans 1:18-32). Rather than giving into the world’s distortion of love which tolerates sin, choose to show true love to others by telling them the truth.

Additionally, the world has distorted our understanding of female friendships, causing women to confuse a desire for close female friendships with homosexuality. However, God has created women to have intimate female friendships (Ecclesiastes 4:9-12), and they are part of His good design for women. Furthermore, the world equates appreciating women’s physical beauty with sexual attraction, but God has designed women to be beautiful. We can appreciate and praise God for the way He has made women without having sexual motives behind it. Ultimately, the sin of homosexuality comes from lust, so Renee encouraged women who struggle with sexual sin to hate it (Romans 12:9), starve it (Romans 13:14), and overwhelm it by dwelling on Christ’s victory over sin (2 Corinthians 5:21).

Being equipped with a right understanding of true, biblical love, let us not tolerate distorted love but instead strive to love others by putting holiness into their lives!

Event Testimonial

Here's what our sister Sofia learned:
"Renee’s lesson on Distorted Love was fantastic! We learned that God is the definition of love and genuine love is expressed in accordance with God’s character, commands, and His actions. Satan wants to redefine our tastes and desires, make us accepting of homosexuality, and even deceive people into believing that it isn’t a sin. But to deny its sinfulness and to stay silent about homosexuality, is unloving and actually hateful toward homosexuals. When we don’t tell the truth, we care more about our own comfort and security than the souls of the lost. We also learned what is and isn’t same-sex attraction. Because our culture constantly pushes and promotes homosexuality, sometimes women will confuse same-sex attraction with a deep desire for female friendship. Additionally, we learned how to fight sexual sin by hating, starving, and overwhelming it! Christ has already defeated all sin, so by His strength we can remove any kind of distorted love from our lives and put on genuine, Christ-like love!"
