Physical Aspects of Emotions

Event Recap

At our most recent Cornerstone event, we had the joy of hearing Hannah teach a lesson titled “Physical Aspects of Emotions.” Hannah spoke about the many physical changes that occur in a woman’s body—such as periods, pregnancy, menopause, and mood-altering drugs—that can affect emotions. While it can be tempting to use hormones as a justification for emotionalism, they are never an excuse for sin. Instead, how should we respond to our circumstances when it is difficult to control our emotions?

The Bible gives us an amazing example of a woman who displayed great faith in the midst of physical and emotional trials: the woman who suffered from a hemorrhage for twelve years. She is mentioned in Mark 5:25-34 and serves as a wonderful example of how we can remain fixed on the Lord in every circumstance. Rather than blaming God for her failed attempts to find healing (detailed in Mark 5:26), she had hope. When she touched Christ’s cloak and was healed, He gave her a unique exhortation: “Your faith has made you well; go in peace” (Mark 5:34). Likewise, when we choose to trust in God and His sovereignty over our lives rather than being ruled by our emotions, we will experience the true, genuine peace that comes from the Lord.

Sisters, let us not believe that we must be controlled by our emotions. Instead, let us recognize the choice we have to see God clearly and live in light of who He is, regardless of our circumstances. When God gives us physical trials, let us rejoice in the unique opportunity He has given us to learn more about who He is and to grow in our faith!

Event Testimonial

Here's what our sister, Erin, learned:

“What a joy to hear Hannah’s lesson on “The Physical Aspects of Emotion”! She unpacked many awesome truths from God's Word to encourage us to have faith, focus on God not the circumstances, and have peace in the Lord. It is really neat to think that even through physical pain and suffering, we can use our emotions to glorify God and CHOOSE to trust Him and His faithfulness over what we feel and see. One of the applications I want to pray through and apply is seeing that Christ is always enough! And no matter what physical suffering I may be going through, there is always a choice and a beautiful opportunity to glorify God! I may have a chronic health condition, but as a believer I am never without hope and by God's grace can choose to be Christlike no matter what I'm feeling. Praise God for His grace to grow us, use us, and glorify Himself through any circumstance or pain we experience!”
