Women's Fellowship

Women's Fellowship is a teaching series in which the women learn from God's Word and enjoy biblical fellowship with one another. This summer, we will be going through lessons centered around the theme, “Before the Throne: Character Studies on Prayer.”

These lessons are meant to help women understand how to pray and what to pray for so that we can be women of prayer! When we understand prayer rightly, we can live out a vibrant pattern of continual and confident prayer in every circumstance. Through the example of prayers in the Bible, we can learn what it looks like to have genuine prayers that are founded on the character of God!

Come join us once a month on Sundays at 11 AM after worship service for a sweet time learning together from God’s Word about how we can be women of prayer!

Lesson Recap

Continuing our Summer Women’s Fellowship Series on prayer, our sister Josephine used the example of Nehemiah in Nehemiah 1:4-11 to teach us how we can pray with great confidence.

First, we looked at Nehemiah’s humility as a man of God and saw how a right view of both himself and of God led to confident prayer (Nehemiah 1:4). Knowing God’s power as well as his own helplessness, Nehemiah turned immediately to the Lord in prayer. Josephine challenged us to examine our lives; when things happen, do we turn immediately to planning, talking, and doing before we ever come before the Lord in prayer? She encouraged us to instead pray as a first reaction, not a last resort!

Second, we learned how the confidence of our prayers is grounded in the faithfulness of God (Nehemiah 1:5). Nehemiah came boldly before the Lord because he was confident in God’s unchanging nature and His faithfulness to Israel (Nehemiah 1:8). We, too, can boldly approach the throne of God knowing what God has promised in His Word. In order to trust what God has promised us, we must know what He has said! Thus, we are to read the Bible but also look back and meditate on how He has kept His word to us before.

Third, we saw Nehemiah’s pattern of persistence in prayer as seen through how four months passed between Nehemiah 1 and Nehemiah 2. Josephine encouraged us to examine our own prayer lives and see if we allow ourselves to grow discouraged and give up. Instead, we should imitate Nehmeiah and persist in our prayers, trusting that God is both powerful and faithful to answer them even when we haven’t yet seen Him do so.

The women walked away from this lesson with a fresh reminder of God’s unwavering character and an exhortation to pray according to what we know of Him. Praise God for His power and faithfulness that are the bedrock of our confidence in prayer!
Hannah sets a beautiful example of pouring herself out to the Lord in prayer in 1 Samuel 1:9-18. Her longing turns to thanksgiving when she sees God answer her prayers for a child. How do we seek to be sincere in our prayers before God? Join us to learn more from Hannah's example and how to model longing and thanksgiving in our prayers.

The lesson will be streamed live on Sunday, September 15, 2024 at 11 AM PDT.
