Cornerstone

Virtual Love

Event Recap

In the second lesson of our Cornerstone series “A Woman’s Search for Love”, Jennifer taught on the dangers of finding love and relationships on the internet. Women search for genuine love in online relationships, but in reality they are rarely true or biblical. These relationships are often shallow, selfish, and impure.

In this lesson, she contrasted the fake, virtual love of the world and the true, biblical love of God. Jennifer then taught the women how to discern between real and fake love. She explained that true love comes from God and is patient, kind, selfless, righteous, and loves the truth(1 Corinthians 13:4-6). People who genuinely love others will wait on God’s timing, point them to Christ, and desire other people’s holiness. On the other hand, it is not real love when we disobey God for self-pleasure and manipulate others for satisfaction.

Why do people look for love online in the first place? Jennifer explained that insecurity and loneliness can lead us to look for fake love. She warned the women to not fall into the trap of fake love because it is a lie from Satan. It promises much, but only breeds more insecurity and loneliness. To combat fake love and search for true love, Jennifer encouraged the women to use the internet in a right way. Instead of seeing it as a place to view things without others looking, we can use it to view and share good content. She also encouraged us to find godly friends who can keep us accountable. When we feel lonely, we can remember that God has given us the body of the church to genuinely care for our spiritual health.

Let us look for genuine, biblical love in the right places, desire holiness in every part of our lives, and, use online platforms not for selfish purposes but for the glory of God!

Event Testimonial

Here's what our sister Mia learned:
"Jenn’s lesson on 'Virtual Love' taught me that I shouldn’t ever question my worth knowing that Christ has already paid a high price for us! Whether it’s hidden online or not, sinning to please someone else is not true love, but rather, true love is trusting and being patient in God’s timing. Jenn’s lesson was helpful for me to remember that true security is found in God, and I’m challenged to grow in not placing my worth in attention from others or having a relationship!"
