Women of Gold

Courage to Dress

Event Recap

The women had a great time at “Courage to Dress” learning about the biblical principles behind modesty and practicing the application of the lesson afterwards with a runway show!

Frances shared a testimonial about how she has been applying a lesson from our Cornerstone event, “Devoted to God,” to her life by remembering her first love daily. She learned that devotion is doing everything out of a love for God.

Then, Kayleen taught us that modesty is an attitude of humility before God and leads to application in how we dress, focusing on 1 Timothy 2:9-10. She said that “adorning” means to be thoughtful in our preparation for how we dress rather than mindlessly throwing clothes on. How we think about clothing is important because our outward appearance is a reflection of the heart, and modesty is an outward manifestation of an inward attitude. Modesty also involves appropriateness, or dressing for each situation carefully out of a fear of God and awe of His holiness. That means not wearing a wedding dress to the beach or a swimsuit to church, even though each is appropriate to its own occasion! Ultimately, we are to adorn ourselves with godliness, using the way we dress as a way to bring attention to God. Knowing that we dress for the Lord and not the approval of man gives us courage to dress modestly in the midst of a society that dresses to flaunt and gain self-glory. We can courageously apply modesty in our lives by being humble before God, praying before we dress each morning, and praising God for the way He gives us creativity in the way we dress.

Following the lesson, we had a fashion show to sharpen our discernment in modest outfit-choosing by rating different models’ outfits on modesty. The women had fun talking through these outfits and situations, using what they learned from the lesson to help them discern which outfits were modest.

It was a fun time learning how to courageously dress according to God’s standards, honoring Him with an inward attitude of humility that is evident through the way we dress. We are excited to apply this lesson by being thoughtful of our dress each day to bring honor to God! Hope to see you at the next Women of Gold event!

Event Testimonial

Here's what our sister Sabrina learned:
"The past Women of Gold on “Courage to Dress” was GREAT! Kayleen did a great job in defining modesty as humility before God that leads to application in how we dress. I learned that I should be thoughtful in the way I dress and use the clothes I wear as an opportunity to honor God. I should also adorn myself in godliness and growing in my own character and inward attitude! One of my applications is to pray before picking out my outfits as well as thinking if it appropriate for the situation, thoughtful, and not drawing attention to myself but to the Lord! I also want to adorn myself with godliness by thinking of a specific attitude that I want to put on or put off by thinking of a verse that can remind me of it!"
